State Solo & Ensemble: Saturday, March 16 We are very excited to be hosting State Solo & Ensemble for the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association this year! This prestigious event hosts student musicians from over 30 area high schools who earned top ratings at the District S&E events earlier in the year, and who may move on to receive top honors and scholarships from MSBOA. Because of the size and breadth of this event, all SCHS Band and Orchestra parents and students (whether or not they are performing) need to volunteer for this event to be a successful one. This has been a point of pride in our music program for over 20 years, and as a result, many MSBOA judges request to come to SCHS for the wonderful experiences they've had here in the past for this event. We need all-hands-on-deck! Some of our volunteer opportunities for this event include:

Cougar Jazz Band at Music Hall: April 2, 2024 We are very excited to once again have the opportunity to perform at historic Music Hall in Downtown Detroit along side the Adams Highlander and Rochester Falcon Jazz Bands on April 2nd, 2024. There are NO other jazz bands in the state that get to do an event like this, and it truly is special for them to play the same stage as Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, and Frank Sinatra. We want to continue this event, and it needs participation for it to happen. Please use this link to RSVP for this special event: https://forms.gle/PZaoMWJqNo7VNa3RA Likewise, please share and distribute this link to any family and friends who may also be interested in attending! The Cougar Jazz Band will head to Hastings, MI on April 26-27th, 2024 to perform at the Thornapple Arts Council Jazz Festival! (https://thornapplearts.org/jazzfest/) This performance was added to our syllabus for this year to take the place of MSBOA Jazz Festival. The festival itself has a remarkable reputation for supporting many different age groups, experience levels, and providing an exceptional educational experience for all those involved.
